Kurun waktu singkat, orang Spanyol mengenalkan kentang ke Italia serta Jerman di Eropa. Pada era ke-18 penanaman kentang menebar ke semua Eropa. Di Perancis, kentang dipopulerkan pakar pertanian Antoine Auguste Parmentier yang memenangi lomba mencari makanan pengganti roti dengan mengenalkan kentang.
